The Paramount Visual Arts Center welcomes the community to Arts Underground most Thursday evening from 6:00PM to 9:00PM, mid September through mid May. Cost is $10. The MMAW has lathes with experienced mentor available. Come and learn to turn! No experience necessary. You must be 13 yrs or older to participate. Carving & Painting a Whimsical House $105 with Bob Lawrence Sep 12, 2026 at 9 am Experience Required: Some prior experience recommended Saturday September 12, 9am-4pm (One Session) Ages 18+ (Please contact us at [email protected] if you have a younger student interested in participating) Explore the exciting world of carving a fun and whimsical house in this one day workshop! Wood artist Bob Lawrence's demonstrations will concentrate on carving elements of successfully creating home features such as siding, shingles, and windows. Bob will have several patterns of houses for students to choose. Students will receive personal instruction and help at their level of carving along with demonstrations throughout the day for successful and safe carving. Beginner with some experience to advanced. Boxes are great little objects that can be used to explore new processes that can later be scaled up for larger pieces. Make a Charcuterie Board or Cheese Cutter! $61 with Andrew Cockroft Nov 4, 2026 at 6 pm Experience Level: beginner, no past experience with woodworking tools required Wednesday November 4, 2026, 6pm - 9pm (One Session Total) Ages 18+ In this course you will take a raw piece of wood and finish it during the class and leave with a charcuterie board or cheese slicer board! Learn to safely sand your work with an orbital sander until it is smooth and then, if you wish to add handles, how to drill holes to install the handles. Complete the project by oiling the board, allowing the natural grains and patterns of the wood to be the focal point. Or choose to create a beautiful and functional cheese slicer board, which also include the hardware that you will assemble, including adding feet to the boards. There will be a selection of wood available to choose from in various sizes, including walnut, maple, oak and cherry. Make a Canoe Paddle $150 with Chuck Rose Nov 19, 2026 at 6 pm Experience Level: beginner, no past experience with woodworking tools required Thursday November 19, 6-9pm and Sunday November 22, 9am - 4pm (Two Sessions Total) Ages 18+ Make a beautiful canoe paddle with woodworker Chuck Rose! Topics including wood selection, blade shape, length and more will be covered the first evening of class, along with hands on experience, with the evening concluding with the gluing of the paddle.
