Mid Minnesota Association of Woodturners
The not-for-profit Mid Minnesota Association of Woodturners provides an environment of interest and activities dedicated to the enjoyment of woodturning and to promote woodturning to the local community through educational events. It is a local chapter of the American Association of Woodturners (AAW).
The Mid Minnesota Association of Woodturners (MMAW) meet every 2nd Saturday of the month. All persons interested in turning are invited to attend an MMAW meeting. Meetings start at 9:30AM with a social, followed by a demonstration, show-&-tell, a question and answer period. We meet in the Paramount Center for the Arts located in the lower level of the Paramount Theater, downtown St. Cloud, MN. Meetings start at 9:30AM with a social, followed by a demonstration, show-&-tell and a question and answer period. Total meeting time including social is about 1.5-2 hours. Parking is free on Saturdays including the adjacent parking ramp. Enter the back door of the Paramount and continue down the stairway on your left or use the elevator to access the lower level. Demonstrations at the meetings cover various topics related to woodturning. Past topics have included basic bowl turning, hollowing, using and making different jigs, safety when turning, turning green wood through harvesting logs with preparing and drying methods, segmented turning, sharpening tools, and how to use various chisels for woodturning. Most demonstration topics come from the membership. Each month we encourage a challenge project. This can include the distribution of a specific type and dimension of wood where members are asked to take it home and return the following month with the object they've created. Other times we have a specific topic, such as a bowl or vase. Often, there is a drawing from the challenge project participants. Members can win items or gift certificates. The emphasis of our meetings is both education and enjoyment. ![]() |
